Hyperkalaemia associated with prolonged insufflation of carbon dioxide into the peritoneal cavity.

چکیده
We measured plasma potassium concentrations in five anaesthetized pigs over a 3.5 h period during which a carbon dioxide pneumoperitoneum was maintained. During this period the abdominal pressure was kept at 1.96 kPa and normocapnia was maintained by intermittent positive pressure ventilation. The potassium concentration was found to increase with time to a mean of 5.63 (SD 0.44) mmol litre-1. Consideration should be given to monitoring plasma potassium concentration in patients undergoing prolonged laparoscopic surgery.

Circulatory effects of carbon dioxide insufflation of the peritoneal cavity for laparoscopy.
Measurements of cardiac output, mean arterial pressure, central venous pressure, and heart rate were made in seven patients undergoing laparoscopy. Measurements were made before and after insufflation of the peritoneum with carbon dioxide, and again after intravenous injection of oxprenolol 2 mg. No significant change in cardiac output followed peritoneal insufflation, but there was a significa...
متن کاملCardiovascular effects of peritoneal insufflation of carbon dioxide for laparoscopy.
We have investigated, in 13 artificially ventilated and anaesthetized patients, the cardiovascular effects of peritoneal insufflation of carbon dioxide preparatory to laparoscopy. Stepwise increases of intra-abdominal pressure up to a maximum of 25 cm H(2)O were accompanied by increases of airway pressure, intrathoracic pressure, central venous pressure, and femoral venous pressure and by signs...
متن کاملNoninvasive pulse wave analysis for monitoring the cardiovascular effects of CO2 pneumoperitoneum during laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Aims: Peritoneal insufflation results in hemodynamic changes during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The aim of the present work to test whether non-invasive applanation tonometry is suitable for reflecting these hemodynamic alterations. Patients and methods: 41 patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomies were monitored using SphygmoCor pulse wave analysing system. Peripheral blood pressure...
متن کاملComplications following Different Techniques of One-lung Ventilation.
Using a single-lumen tracheal tube, collapse of the nonventilated lung can be achieved by carbon dioxide insufflation into the contralateral closed intrapleural chest cavity to a pressure as low as 5 mmHg. However, this technique may create a physiological response very similar to that of a unilateral tension pneumothorax, with a consequent hemodynamic instability secondary to decreased venous ...
متن کاملIntraperitoneal pressure and volume of gas injected as effective parameters of the correct position of the Veress needle during creation of pneumoperitoneum.
OBJECTIVE The aim of this work was to establish reliable parameters of the correct position of the Veress needle in the peritoneal cavity during creation of pneumoperitoneum. METHODS The Veress needle was inserted into the peritoneal cavity of 100 selected patients, and a carbon-dioxide flow rate of 1.2 L/min and a maximum pressure of 12 mm Hg were established. Intraperitoneal pressure (IP) a...
